Das Mikroapartment ist Teil eines lebhaften Geflechts dritter Orte, die trotz eigenem Rückzugsort dazu einladen, mit anderen Dinge zu teilen, als lebte man in einer WG. Das Konzept sieht ein Apartment mit modularem Charakter und Sichtbezügen vor, das als Rückzug im vernetzten, öffentlichen Leben dient.
Zentrales Element ist eine Multifunktionswand als Raumtrenner und Staumöbel. Es ermöglicht je nach Bedarf eine separate oder offene Raumsituation zwischen Wohnen, Schlafen, Kochen, Duschen. In geöffnetem Zustand blickt man durch die Raumeinheiten, durch Zuschieben der Wand entstehen separate Räume.
Eine Glaswand im Duschbereich erlaubt einen freien Blick bis nach draußen. Die Fassade lässt sich komplett aufschieben und bietet dem Nutzer einen eigenen Minigarten. Ein kleines Fenster mit Lieferklappe neben der Eingangstür erlaubt eine Verbindung zum Flur.
Zwischen den einzelnen Apartments sind kommunikative 3. Orte, wie Wohnküchen, Waschcafés oder Kinoräume angesiedelt, die wie in einer Wohngemeinschaft von allen Bewohnern genutzt werden können. Als Kokon in einem komplexen Geflecht städtischer Räume stellt der Wohnraum Privatheit her, die nicht an der Haustür beginnen und am Fenster aufhören muss.
Das Apartment erhält dadurch ein attraktives Vorne und Hinten, wie es sich einst Tucholsky ersann, als er schrieb: "Ja, das möchste: eine Villa im Grünen mit großer Terrasse, vorn die Ostsee, hinten die Friedrichstraße, mit schöner Aussicht, ländlich-mondän, vom Badezimmer ist die Zugspitze zu sehn - aber abends zum Kino hast Dus nicht weit. In addition to a personal retreat, the micro-apartment is part of a lively network of additional spaces that invite sharing things with others; like living in a flat-sharing community. The concept envisages an apartment with a modular character and sightlines that serves as a private retreat from the connected, public life. The central feature of the apartment is a multifunction wall acting as room divider and built-in storage. It enables an enclosed or open room arrangement between living, sleeping, cooking and bathing as required. The open position provides views through the space units. Separate rooms are created by sliding the wall.
A glass wall in the shower provides an unimpeded view to the exterior. The entire facade can be slid aside and provides the user with their own mini garden. A small window with delivery flap alongside the entry door creates a connection to the corridor.
Communicative common spaces, such as eat-in kitchens, laundry/coffee rooms and viewing spaces, which can be used – in flat-sharing style – by all of the residents, are located between the individual apartments. As a cocoon in a complex network of communal rooms, the living space creates a private sphere that need not begin at the front door and end at the windows.
Thus, the apartment acquires an attractive front and rear, as Tucholsky once imagined, when he wrote: “Yes, you’d like that: a villa in the country with a big terrace, the Baltic in front, Friedrichstrasse behind, with a beautiful view, rustic-chic, the Zugspitze visible from the bathroom - but you’re not far from a cinema in the evening.
